17/05/26 - WARNDON PLAYERS REPRESENT WORCESTERSHIRE
1 min read
On Saturday 16th May, Warndon Chess Club members Colin Vernon and Alex Nicholls represented the Worcestershire Under-1650 team in the National Counties Championship Quarter Finals.
Earlier in the season, Worcestershire finished top of a group containing five other counties, which allowed the team to bypass the second round and progress directly to the quarter finals.
The match, against Kent, took place in Reading, across 16 boards, and proved to be an incredibly close contest. The final score finished 8–8, with Worcestershire unfortunately losing on tie-break.
Despite the narrow defeat, both Warndon representatives produced excellent results:
• Alex Nicholls won on Board 2
• Colin Vernon won on Board 16
Congratulations to both players on their performances and on representing both Worcestershire and Warndon Chess Club so well.
