14/09/26 - U1650 SEASON KICKS OFF WITH A WIN V REDDITCH

Warndon’s U1650 team has made a fantastic start to the season, securing their first-ever league victory with a 2½–1½ win over Redditch in our first home league match.

The evening was a great showcase for the club, with 32 players in attendance and plenty of interest in the match. A particular highlight was an all-women’s top board, with Warndon’s Ceylan Ozvatan taking on Redditch’s Antonia Reed, however it was the experienced Antonia that ultimately prevailed.

The team battled hard across all four boards, with convincing wins for Ric Griffith-Read and Colin G Vernon as well as a half point for Viktor Gorbunov - despite being up a pawn for the majority of the game, a complicated minor piece ending resulted in a draw by agreement.

It’s an excellent start to our league campaign, and with a strong squad and plenty of depth, we have high hopes for our chances in the U1650 league this season.
